Homework & Study Skills Group for Neurodivergent Teens
An online OT-supported group helping neurodivergent teens to plan, organise, start and complete homework
Format: Online Day: Wednesdays Time:7:00pm- 8:10pm Age group: 13-19 years Facilitator: Occupational Therapist Price: $55 per session, plan managed & self managed NDIS funding accepted
This is a weekly online group for neurodivergent teens who find homework hard to start, hard to stick with, or overwhelming to complete.
It is not tutoring, and it is not a social group. The focus is on providing structure, accountability and support while teens work on their own homework tasks.
Each session includes a short practical strategy, planning support, and dedicated work time with OT guidance.
This group may suit teens who:
Avoid starting homework
Feel overwhelmed by assignments
Procrastinate even when they know what to do
Need someone to help them get started
Benefit from accountability and check-ins
Struggle to stay focused at home
Find homework leads to stress or conflict
What happens in each session?
1. Planning and task setup
Teens choose what they want to work on and are supported to break tasks down into clear, manageable steps. This helps reduce overwhelm and makes it easier to get started.
2. Micro strategy
A short practical strategy is introduced (e.g. how to start when it feels hard, how to reduce overwhelm, or how to stay on track).
3. Supported work time
Teens work on their own homework while the OT provides check-ins, prompts, encouragement and support to help them start, stay focused and keep moving.
4. Reset and continue
A brief mid-session reset helps teens reflect on what’s working and identify the next step.
5. Wrap-up
Teens have the option of sharing what they completed and what they may continue after the session. Teens also have the option to say back and connect
Low-pressure participation
This group is designed to be low-demand and neurodivergent-friendly.
Teens do not have to talk if they do not want to. Cameras can be on or off. Participation can look like typing in the chat, privately messaging the OT, listening, or simply working quietly.
The goal is not to perform socially — the goal is to get started and make progress.
